As this website is primarily for the community of current and ex-students and teachers of AUA Ratchayothin, I won’t use up much space on writing about teaching at AUA. Much of what you need to know about the conditions and benefits can be found at the main site www.auathailand.org ,  so I’ll focus only on those things that might be a little particular about this branch.

Where is the school?

The school is in north central Bangkok and is on the third floor of the odd yet spectacular elephant building that is situated on Phaholyothin Road near the Ratchayothin intersection.  It’s close to the Major Ratchayothin, Central Lad Phrao, and not very far from Chatujak market , the Skytrain (Mochit) and the underground (Phaholyothin). There are fifteen fairly modern classrooms, a student “lounge area”, two teachers’ room, and an administration office. We have 18 teachers at present and more than one thousand five hundred students.

Where can I live?

Although AUA doesn’t directly assist with teacher accommodation, there are several apartment blocks within walking distance of the school that are reasonably priced,  and current teachers should be able to advise on these. Some teachers prefer and find it convenient to live on the skytrain route around Victory Monument, Soi Ragnam, or Soi Ari

What kind of teacher is the school looking for?

In line with other AUA branches, we are only interested in teachers with English at native proficiency level, who hold at least a bachelor’s degree, and a recognized 120- hour or more face to face TEFL/TESOL certificate such as the RSA (CELTA) or the SIT TESOL certificate. We are really interested in finding people who are passionate about teaching, who are totally committed to the communicative approach, who are enthusiastic and interested in developing their own teaching, and who want to be part of a warm and friendly community of students and teachers

What hours will I have to work?

Like all AUAs we have six-week terms, with one week free between terms. This is great if you want to travel or go to the beach, but it is important to mention that this week is unpaid, though there usually is exam proctoring work available in that week.

During term, the school is open afternoons and evenings from Monday to Thursday, and mornings and afternoons on Saturday and Sunday. As a new teacher in the first term, you are most likely to have a Monday-Thursday schedule that includes being mentored for one hour a day, and teaching two classes in the evening. You will also have to teach on the Saturday-Sunday program and can choose whether you would like to work just one class or two classes each weekend.
